Stan Scott
Bio
Best known as the Mitre 10 “Easy As” DIY guy, Stan Scott is a talented builder and creative tinkerer with a love for all things hands-on. A true collector of bits and bobs, Stan is forever adding treasures to his eclectic man shed — a space where tools, offcuts, and oddities become the spark for new projects. With decades of building know-how and a passion for sharing skills, Stan mixes practicality with creativity, proving that DIY is as much about imagination as it is about fixing things.
Description
Stan Scott has crafted a seat from salvaged timber of the Hikuwai Bridge, transforming remnants of a structure broken by flood into a place of rest and reflection. The piece carries both memory and mana – a reminder of the damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle, but also of the resilience to rebuild and reimagine.
In Stan’s hands, the bridge is not lost, but given a new life as a gathering point. The seat becomes a place to pause, to connect, and to honour the relationship between people, whenua, and the structures that hold us together. Practical yet deeply symbolic, it embodies Stan’s creative ethos – resourceful, grounded, and always finding beauty in what remains.
